| 1 | | People of Bundanoon, a small town 100 miles south of Sydney in Australia, have |
| | voted to ban the sale of bottled water. They are possibly the first town in the |
| | world to take such a step. Campaigner John Dee of the ‘Bundy on Tap’ |
| | campaign said they came up with the idea of a ban after he found out that a |
| | drinks company took tap water from Bundanoon to Sydney, bottled it and then |
| | took it back to Bundanoon to sell. “It’s time for people to realise they’re being |
| | fooled by the bottled water industry. There’s safe drinking water coming out of |
| | our taps which is just as good as the stuff you find encased in plastic.” |

| | Residents and visitors will be encouraged to fill their bottles with free filtered |
| | water from public fountains in the main street. New South Wales Premier Nathan |
| | Rees has backed the cause and ordered government departments to stop |
| | buying bottled water and use tap water instead. “Pumping, bottling and |
| | distributing the water wastes too many resources and creates too much |
| | rubbish,” he said. “We are very much hoping that the Bundanoon campaign will |
| | get Australians to rethink the half billion dollars a year they spend on bottled |
| | water.” |
