Wat is het advies aan Mary over haar probleem van alleen eten?

• “I have to eat alone”

I’ve settled down really well at school
and have made friends, but the problem is
my mates go to school dinners with girls
who hate me. My best mate only goes into
the dining room once a week and the rest
of the time I end up having an ice cream
or crisps from the machines. I know that
isn’t enough, but I’m not sitting in the
dining room on my own. What can I do? My
mum would go barmy if she found out.
Mary

You’re understandably nervous about sitting on your own.
You’re scared of what people will say about you and you think
that a lot of people don’t like you. Your solution to this is to
avoid them and not eat properly. I’m glad you’ve realised that
this isn’t the answer. But it’s going to take a lot of courage for
you to walk in there and sit down.
You’d be better off looking round for some people you don’t
know - maybe some younger girls - and ask if you can sit with
them. If they ask why, just say you’ve missed your friends or
you’re in a hurry and wanted to go in before they got there.
