Books but not beds |
SIR - I am able to ask my librarian |
to locate for me any book of my |
choice. In about one minute flat, |
after consulting her computer, she |
can tell me whether the book is avail- |
able at any library in the county. |
A hospital urgently needed to |
locate a bed for a child seriously ill |
with meningitis, and it became nec- |
essary for the doctors to telephone |
each of 16 hospitals individually. The |
child lost her life. |
There must be something wrong |
with our priorities. |
