Vraag 9

EARLY START
FOR SCHOOLS?

STARTING school at 9am and
finishing at 4pm could soon be a thing
of the past.
Changes in school hours to a
continental-style day with an earlier
start, shorter lunch break and finish in
the early afternoon would raise
standards and improve discipline, head
teachers have said.
    The National Association of Head
Teachers claimed that the switch could
improve life for both pupils and staff.
An early finish would allow pupils to
do their homework in the afternoon
leaving time for much needed extra-
curricular activities such as sport, clubs
and drama.
In addition, the union said, a lesson
before lunch was much more beneficial
to pupils than a lesson after lunch.
