| Changes in school hours to a |
| continental-style day with an earlier |
| start, shorter lunch break and finish in |
| the early afternoon would raise |
| standards and improve discipline, head |
| teachers have said. |
| The National Association of Head |
| Teachers claimed that the switch could |
| improve life for both pupils and staff. |
| An early finish would allow pupils to |
| do their homework in the afternoon |
| leaving time for much needed extra- |
| curricular activities such as sport, clubs |
| and drama. |
| In addition, the union said, a lesson |
| before lunch was much more beneficial |
| to pupils than a lesson after lunch. |
