WHY DO WE SAY IT? |
A SANDWICH is, of course, just about the ultimate |
convenience food. Like many words in the English |
language "(eg cardigan), it was named after a person: |
John Montague, 4th Earl of Sandwich. Sandwich was |
en 18th century politician who was so addicted to |
gambling that he had his servants bring him food |
(initially ham) placed between two slices of bread so |
that he could eat and gamble at the same time! |
Incidentally, this was the same man after whom |
Captain Cook named the Sandwich Islands. |
