Vraag 5

WOMEN are to be accepted for training as air crew in the RAF
for the first time since it was formed, back in 1918.
The change in policy, announced by the Government last
week, is due partly to the enthusiasm shown by women
student pilots in university air squadrons, and partly to the tact
that there are fewer possible male recruits. Because of the fall
in the number of births some 20 years ago there are simply not
as many people of the right age around.
Over the next few years around 10 per cent of the RAF's trainee
pilots are expected to be women.
The list of aircraft they will be trained to fly will include the Tristar
jets, the Hercules transport planes and Sea King helicopters.
Seen here are Helen Colaluca, 22, a student at the University
of Southampton, (left) and Sue Bryce-Smith, 21, of University
College, London sampling life in the cockpit.

Waarom gaat de Engelse luchtmacht (de RAF) nu ook vrouwen als vliegend personeel aantrekken?
