A DIVORCEE who sued a dating agency when it failed to produce the man of her dreams has been awarded £350 compensation in the small claims court. Anne Friday, 58, took legal action after Perfect Partners in Southampton introduced her to only two men in a year. She had paid £549 on the promise of 14 introductions and two invitations to dinner parties. The mother of two said: "Af- ter a year I was given only two referrals. Neither of which was suitable. They were very pleasant gentlemen of a similar age to myself, but the chemistry between us was not right. At the rate I was be- ing given introductions, it would have taken seven years to meet 14 men. When the |
company processed my initial details they got my sex wrong, so I suppose I should be thankful I didn't end up on a date with another woman." Portsmouth County Court |
awarded Ms Friday, of Fare- ham. Hampshire, £350 com- pensation plus &pund;60 costs in May. Tony Langstone, Hamp- shire County Council's head of safety and standards, said: "This case does not set a prece- dent, but it sets up a marker for all these dating agencies to be careful of the promises they make, and to people to be wary of who they go to." Perfect Partners which de- scribed itself as a computer- ised introduction service, has since gone out of business. Its managing director, Tony Race, declined to comment. Ms Friday said that she was still in touch with her two unsuitable dates. "They were just as dissatisfied with the service from the agency, and both sent me letters of sup- port when I went to court." |
