DECADENT
SIXTIES

I CAN'T understand the current nostalgia for the Sixties. ft was a dreadful era to live through, with the emergence of the Beatles, pictured, who effectively killed off beautiful ballads and many fine ballad singers.
The Sixties will forever be associated with the assassina-

tions of President Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King; with the violent drug-crazed slayings by the Manson Gang and, nearer home, the Moors Murders.
The Swinging Sixties was also the start of the permissive society, and I, for one, shall remember the Sixties only as decadent.
