WALTER Lee Harvey Jr.
faced a life sentence for the
murder of a young coupie. During
the th ree-week trial in St. Louis
jurors, sequestered at a hotel, were
forbidden to read newspapers, listen
to the radio or watch television
for fear that their impartiality might
be tainted. But three weeks without TV was too much for Theodore Aldrich and James Johnson. A sheriff's deputy heard female voices arguing loudly. He burst in and caught the pair watching Dynasty. The next day Judge James Hartenbach halted the murder trial and, instead, heard the case against Aldrich and Johnson. They were each fined f13,OOO and given a two-month jail sentence. Harvey might have been con victed on two counts of capital murder but, because of the two telly-lovers' technical breach, he may now go free. |
