Rural ram-raider alert

THE serenity of Great Asby, rural Cumbria, has been
shattered by that scourge of inner-city life, the uninvited
ram-raider. As the Cumberland & Westmorland Herald
notes, regulars at the Three Greyhounds were just settling
down for a pint and a game of pool one lunchtime last month
when a ram - an eight-year-old Swaledale tup on loan to
Asby Hall Farm - spotted its reflection in a window of the
village inn and went berserk.
Thinking it was a rival, the ram charged, shattered the
glass and landed in the pool room. Said licensee John
Hughes: "One person jumped on the table as the ram was
looking very angry." After much pleading the animal was
escorted from the premises; only to charge at another
reflection. "This time various people managed to get a car
in between the ram and the window before the animal could
give a repeat performance," said the paper.
The theory is that the tup was out "looking for lady
friends". "They do wander," commented farmer Alan
Brown. "But they don't usually knock windows out."

Wat was de oorzaak van het agressieve gedrag van de ram volgens het artikeltje?
