Not so sweet smell of success

As the German economy heads towards recession, shop-
keepers are resorting to desperate means to entice people
to spend. "Psycho-perfumes", scents calculated to relax
the mind, are being gently pumped around shopping
malls. But the Germans have not yet hit upon the right
combination to unlock the national psyche. Researchers
claim the Japanese relax best to the smell of jasmine and
Americans to grapefruit. In England, it is reported,
scientists have developed a fragrance called "Osmone"
which simulates the smell of a freshly-cut lawn.
