Not so sweet smell of success |
As the German economy heads towards recession, shop- |
keepers are resorting to desperate means to entice people |
to spend. "Psycho-perfumes", scents calculated to relax |
the mind, are being gently pumped around shopping |
malls. But the Germans have not yet hit upon the right |
combination to unlock the national psyche. Researchers |
claim the Japanese relax best to the smell of jasmine and |
Americans to grapefruit. In England, it is reported, |
scientists have developed a fragrance called "Osmone" |
which simulates the smell of a freshly-cut lawn. |
